Year of the Monkey

Filed under: Donkeyshines Announcements — Tags: , — Ryan Klemek @ 1:38 pm

I am halfway done with designing a shirt for every Chinese Zodiac. My wife is actually born in the Year of the Monkey, so I made this in time for her birthday in October. Luckily, she doesn’t visit my blog unless I specifically tell her to, so this will still be a surprise!

Year of the Dragon

I’ve finished my fifth of the twelve Chinese Zodiac t-shirt designs. It’s only five month until the Year of the Dragon begins, so there’s little time to waste! If you or anyone you know is a dragon, then you should hurry on down to Donkeyshines, Jr. and pick up a shirt or three. The design is currently available on a basic tee for $11.99, a women’s tee for $16.99, men’s American Apparel for $18.99, baby’s size for $13.99, toddler’s size for $12.99, and children’s size for $11.99.

Weird Al Meets Donkeyshines

I was pretty psyched about how good my seats were at the last Weird Al Yankovic concert I attended. During “Wanna B Ur Lover”, he actually jumped off stage and got right in my wife’s face, staring creepily into her eyes. However, that’s nothing compared to how close my Twitter friend Dawn got to him.

Apparently, Dawn and Al both went to Lynwood High (in CA, I’m assuming) They are both still in touch with their former Physics/Calculus teacher who hooked Dawn and her son up with back-stages passes after a show.

Since Dawn was wearing the Donkeyshines Nessie in a Fishbowl t-shirt, I almost feel like I was there myself.  I don’t want to be one of those guys who tries to get celebrities to wear their shirts, but…wouldn’t Al look good with a Robot Penguin on his chest?

Here’s a design that actually first existed as a Mother’s Day card many years ago. It has gone through a few drafts, and now I’m finally releasing it on a basic T at Donkeyshines Jr. for only $11.99

I will eventually make this available on special ladies’ tees, premium men’s tees, and perhaps even in children’s sizes.

Year of the Rabbit

Drawing of the day for 2/22/11 is my latest t-shirt design. I decided that, since I was born in the Year of the Rabbit, I would make a t-shirt that had a rabbit on it. Look for this design to be available soon. There will also be a big Donkeyshines announcement soon, so stay tuned.

Webcomic Release!

Filed under: Donkeyshines Announcements — Ryan Klemek @ 1:38 pm

Boy, I have been MIA. Is this really my first post since March 17? Anyway, there’s a good reason for my absence. I’ve really been working hard to finish up the webcomic so that I can launch and make it open to the public. Well, I am happy to say that it is finally ready! Go to Mirthless Myth and check it out!

Well, that’s really all I have to say at the moment. I’m somewhat exhausted right now. Anyway, keep tuning in to Mirthless Myth for new pages every Monday. And expect more posts here at the Donkeyblog now that things are settled with the comic.

Turtle Painting

Filed under: Artwork,Donkeyshines Announcements — Ryan Klemek @ 5:13 pm

I have been really busy with the webcomic and have had little time for much else. However, I did finally finish the painting for the Jesus Turtle. here’s a detail of my favorite part:

I’m especially proud of the hair. For some reason, I have always had problems painting hair and only recently have I gotten a handle on it. Anyway you can see the entire painting here. Soon, I will start the painting for the Dino Volleyball shirt. However, I must concentrate on finishing page 5 of my new webcomic. I am also still trying to think of a name for the series and website. I will keep y’all posted.

New Year, New Low Prices

I’ve always considered the prices at Donkeyshines to be fair, reflecting the cost of the high quality blanks I use. Part of the reason costs are so relatively high is that I print small runs of about 100 shirts at a time, as this is all I can really afford. $24.99 for silky soft, environmentally nice bamboo/organic cotton blend is pretty reasonable, as is $19.99 for soft, fashion-forward cotton shirts. When all costs were considered, I wasn’t even making 50% profit on these as it was. And if these prices were too high for people, I always had a Shirt of the Week for $16.99, and regularly offered high % -off coupons. However, towards the end of last year, I found a new cotton fashion blank that is about 25% cheaper than the ones I had previously been using. This will allow me to perminently lower prices on all my shirts from now on. Even though the prices of the bamboo blanks haven’t come down, I can lower the selling price of these because of the money I am saving on the cotton shirts!  So from now on, The cotton shirts are going to sell for $16.99 and the bamboo shirts will sell for $19.99. By the way, the new cotton blanks I’m using are from Next Level Apparel, and they are not only less expensive than the ones I was previously using, but they’re softer and fit better as well. I’m so excited about the new shirts, that I have already put in an order for my latest design:

Look for brand-new Dino Volleyball shirts by the end of this month! Also, in 2010, look to see some classic designs like Donkey Pegasus and Gorilla Duck graduate from cotton to bamboo!
