I’ve been working on this painting since October. Initially it was going to be a Christmas present for my father-in-law, but now it is going to be a Father’s Day present instead.
I am not sure how it ended up taking so long to finish. I felt like I had to re-learn how to paint once or twice a month while working on it, but that always happens. Even now I see things I would want to fix. However, you have to draw the line somewhere, or else no painting would ever be finished. During the process, I realized a few things about the activity of painting. Most importantly, it is not a relaxing pass-time. I noticed that at moments of deep concentration, I felt myself getting really, really warm, and I would have to shed layers of clothing. Even in the winter. But then I would calm down a bit and be totally freezing. It was like interval training, or plyometrics. Anyway, its finally done (ish)!
